CoatCount is a free set of home improvement calculators. The idea is simple: answer the question every DIYer and tradesperson asks at the start of a job — how much do I actually need? — quickly, accurately, and without the guesswork that leads to wasted trips to the shop or running out halfway through.
CoatCount works out quantities for paint, wallpaper, tiles, flooring, decking, turf, gravel and concrete, plus practical extras like radiator sizing (BTUs) and fence & shed paint. Each tool works in metric or imperial units, so it's useful wherever you are.
Every calculation comes with a ready-made list of everything the job needs — not just the paint, but the primer, rollers, brushes and prep too. Where those suggestions link to a retailer, they may be affiliate links, which means we could earn a small commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. That's what keeps CoatCount free to use.
We build every calculator on established trade formulas and sensible allowances for wastage. But real jobs vary — surfaces, brands, coverage and layouts all differ — so we're upfront that these are estimates to guide you, and we always suggest buying a little spare. Where a figure is a rule of thumb, we say so.
